Carrascoplein
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

West 8 designed a somewhat restrainee but surreal landscape for an empty space near the Sloterdijk railway and bus station in Amsterdam. The transit space for cars, trams, cyclists and pedestrians is largely covered by elevated railway lines supported on columns. The design consists of a new landscape of grass and asphalt, and where they make the transition from one to the other, the landscape is covered with white dots. Fake tree stumps are positionec in a subtle way and serve as lighting elements at night. One of the columns is even completely clad with a simulated cast of a tree trunk.
