Adriaan Geuze to open the Dutch Landelijk Congres Openbare Ruimte

As keynote speaker, Adriaan Geuze, under the leadership of chairman Bas Haring, will discuss the world of spatial planning, the use of public spaces and showcase a number of West 8’s successful projects both within the Netherlands and abroad.

The National Public Space Congress (Landelijk Congres Openbare Ruimte), now in its 12th year, is an annual event organized for all professionals engaged in the design, establishment and management of public space. This includes policy makers and municipality practitioners, urban planners, landscape architects, manufacturers and professionals in the social domain. The Congress provides answers to topical issues in the Netherlands today and offers the chance to work together to seek collaborative solutions.

The National Public Space Congress will take place on the 19th of November in Schiedam and on December 9 in Tilburg. Day 1, examines how to create support by residents and businesses and entice corporations to invest in the public space. While Day 2 questions how to control the quality of design, when work is outsourced and what constructive models lead to public spaces that provide experience and health.

Philosopher Bas Haring will lead the two-day National Congress Public Space. “Embrace the mess” was Haring’s provocative theorem in last year’s congress, where he was a keynote speaker. This year Haring will reflect on the Congress theme, as chairman and as a speaker.
