Book presentation ‘Aesthetics of Sustainable Architecture’
Aesthetics of Sustainable Architecture (ed. Sang Lee, 010 Publishers Rotterdam) is a collection of essays, with contributions from Kengo Kuma, Kenneth Frampton, Matthias Sauerbruch and West 8’s Matthew Skjonsberg, whose essay ‘Magic, Inc.’ evaluates the link between perception, belief and the forces at work in the city for – and against – justice, asserting that ethics are embedded in aesthetics. Magic, Inc. makes reference to the public spaces of West 8’s recent projects in Toronto, Miami and Madrid, describing how their aesthetics are explicitly based on decisions regarding questions of ethics in the design and construction process. As the book states on its dustjacket: ‘At its very core, Aesthetics of Sustainable Architecture underlines the connection that exists between our approach to sustainability on one hand, and our approach to certain aesthetic propositions and practices on the other.’
The book was presented to the public with a symposium and book signing on November 17 at TU-Delft in the context of the Border Conditions and Territories program at the Faculty of Architecture at the Delft University of Technology. For more information see: www.010.nl.
