Construction works started at Noorderpark in Amsterdam
This week construction works have started at the Noorderpark in Amsterdam. The first part to be developed is Volewijk-Oost and will be ready mid-2009. When all parts are completed, Amsterdam will have a real green central park that functions as a central meeting point, with spaces that can be used for large gatherings and functions.
The design by West 8 for the new park will transform the urban landscape that was created by construction works on the new local railway line, the North-South line. In addition to tying together three existing parks that were isolated from each other, West 8’s design also proposes a broad circuit track that links the existing disjointed parks, with new bridge connections which span across the canal and over the road and railway line.
