West 8 director Edzo Bindels has been appointed as supervisor of the central area of the city of Zaandam (MAAK.CentrumZaanstad).
Zaandam is growing at a rapid pace and has the ambition to realize 20,000 new homes. Existing neighborhoods and (former) business parks are being developed into dense, mixed-use districts, with facilities and infrastructure to support the high number of homes and businesses. Bindels will be tasked with monitoring the architectural quality and ensuring a consistent appearance of the town’s center.
Bindels succeeds Sjoerd Soeters and complements the existing supervisor team in Zaandam, which is divided in four areas and consists of Roy Bijhouwer (MAAK.Noord), Jeroen Ruitenbeek (MAAK.Midden) and Ruurd Gietema (MAAK.Zuid).
The project is a great addition to West 8’s varied portfolio of ongoing and completed supervision projects. These include Den Helder (center and Willemsoord), the Groene Loper in Maastricht, Strijp S / West Corridor Eindhoven, Amersfoort Vathorst, Gasthuiskwartier Den Bosch, the Stadshart and Theaterkwartier of Lelystad, and the Zernike Campus in Groningen.
