Houston Botanic Gardens hosted a free community celebration in honour of the completion of the Susan Garver Family Discovery Garden on the 26th of January.
The event was the first opportunity for neighbours to get a look around the park and for children to play with the newly installed water features, water masts, nature play sculptures and the Boardwalk iris maze.
West 8 was represented at the event by project leader Donna Bridgeman, with presentations given by Mayor Turner, and President/Legal council of the Houston Botanical Gardens, Claudia G. Vassar. The design elements open to the public included the lagoon, live oak bench, reforestation area, cypress pond, lagoon restroom, water delta, and colourful planting beds of carnivorous plants.
The Susan Garver Family Discovery Garden is the first of three distinct gardens designed by West 8 for the $35 million master plan of the Houston Botanic Gardens. The park is set to open to the public in its entirety by autumn, 2020.
