Inspired by plants from the Qur’an, design of Botanic Gardens in Doha, Qatar unveiled
The new Qur’anic Botanic Garden designed by West 8 will offer visitors a unique insight and experience in the botanical world of plants that are mentioned in the verses of the Holy Qur’an; their growth, fruits, use and meaning. UNESCO proposed the idea of this project in 2008 and, the proposal was accepted by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.
Situated in Oxygen Park, the green heart of Education City in Doha, the Qur’anic Botanic Garden designed by West 8 will be a garden of reconciliation, meditation, and spiritual significance. The experience through the Qur’anic Botanic Garden represents a Journey of Life; from birth to death and back to the beginning. The journey starts with water and progresses through the gardens which display a rich botanical diversity.
The Qur’anic Botantic Garden project will “help achieve important objectives in the fields of environmental conservation, scientific research, education and recreation,’’ said UNESCO. Construction on the project is expected to begin in late 2015.
