Jamie Maslyn Larson to Speak at NYC Parks Without Borders Summit
The daylong conference, Parks without Borders will consist of panels, workshops, and engaging keynotes that are intended to explore innovative design, equity, public engagement, resiliency, and ecological and landscape connectivity in order to stimulate ideas for the Next Generation of Urban Parks and Public Space.
West 8 Partner, Jamie Maslyn Larson is invited to present at the 3.40pm panel session on Design Innovation for Civic Spaces. This session will explore how despite the renaissance in urban park development and investment in recent years, creating successful public spaces for the 21st century remains a complicated challenge.
Designers must contend with a myriad of spatial, funding, and maintenance limitations before a fully-realized place can come to fruition. When faced with the daunting task of designing for the public realm in New York City, innovative solutions from other cities can provide insight and inspiration. As we look forward and plan for the next generation of parks, what lessons can be learned from examples in other cities and regions?
Jamie will be presenting West 8’s Governors Island project among others. She will be joined by Nancy Prince, Deputy Chief of Design, NYC Parks; Kinder Baumgardner, Managing Principle SWA; and Eugenie Birch, Co-Director, PennIUR. Phil Ginsburg, General Manager, SF Recreation & Parks will act as moderator.
