Launch of Groundbreaking Queen’s Quay transformation

Today, 16 November 2012, the Queen’s Quay construction work officially starts. The Queen’s Quay construction will transform Toronto’s main waterfront street and is part of the overall Masterplan of Toronto Central Waterfront, a project by the joint-venture West 8+DTAH. Queen’s Quay will be under construction for 2 1/2 years. During this time, the shops and parts of the street will remain accessible at all times.

Queen’s Quay Boulevard is set to bring a vibrant new pedestrian promenade and will complete the Central waterfront section of the Martin Goodman Trail.  The project includes three major components, namely:

  • A broad granite pedestrian promenade with a double row of Plane trees and the Martin Goodman Trail connection to the Waterfront;
  • A new two-way street with expanded turning lanes and a dedicated light rail transit (LRT) corridor with widened platforms and passenger amenities;
  • Animation of the north (city) side of the street which will rejuvenate ground floor retail activity and urban vibrancy.
