Madrid Rio nominated for the European Garden Award 2012
West 8 has been informed that the project Madrid Rio has been selected as one of the finalists for the European Garden Award 2012 in the category ‘Innovative Contemporary Concept or Design’. Madrid Rio was delivered in close collaboration with MRIO (a joint venture of Burgos&Garrido Asociados, Porras La Casta Arquitectos, and Rubio&Alvarez-Sala). The other two finalists are Ostpark am Gleisdreieck (Germany) and Berges du Rhône (France). The award ceremony will take place the 31st of August at Schloss Dyck, Germany.
The European Garden Award was first established in 2010, honouring exceptional achievements in garden culture and in the way parks and gardens are used in urban and regional development projects. Key elements taken into consideration for the selection of the finalists are innovative implementation, urban development aspects, sustainability, local involvement and a high quality of modern design. The award is given by the European Garden Heritage Network EHGN which is a network of over 150 gardens in 8 countries, amongst which the Netherlands.
