Climate Adaptation Summit & West 8
25-01-2021
We are proud that The Netherlands is hosting the international online Climate Adaptation Summit this week and wholeheartedly support its mission to accelerate and innovate worldwide efforts to deal with climate change. The summit brings together world leaders such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Cora Van Nieuwenhuizen and the chairman of the Global Commission on Adaptation, Ban Ki-Moon.
We are delighted that three of our projects are featured in the program:
- Our project Hondsbossche Zeewering is the online 'face' of the Summit, check out the website here.
- Last week West 8 director Martin Biewenga presented our proposal for a climate-adaptive transformation of the Suikeras corridor in Groningen at the design manifestation Act & Adapt. The online exhibition can be viewed here.
- On the 25th of January, a live broadcast of the Summit will be recorded on the Afsluitdijk. West 8 has been involved as the landscape architect for the iconic dike's reinforcement since 2016. More information.
