Place Gambetta is approaching completion

After two years of construction, the redesigned Place Gambetta is nearly complete. West 8, together with the Bordeaux Landscape Architect, Sabine Haristoy, have redesigned both the plaza and the lush garden in the centre of the city. When complete, the renovated square will provide the public with a rejuvenated, vibrant and green environment in the heart of Bordeaux.

Previously overwhelmed with heavy traffic flow, the project improves the accessibility of the square by relocating vehicles and providing a generous space for bikes and pedestrians. The new design preserves existing centenary trees and introduces a variety of over fifty new trees to frame the square with a dappled canopy. Additionally, a new limestone fountain dedicated to Eleonore D'aquitaine will become the natural meeting point within the central English Garden.

From the beginning of Spring, the blossoming trees will create a colourful palette, complimenting the 18th-century façades of the surrounding buildings. The garden is expected to fully open in January 2021 in celebration of the New Year.
