Official Opening First Housing Block, Crooswijk, Rotterdam

Last Thursday, the 7^th of June, Nieuw Crooswijk celebrated the opening of the first housing block. The Masterplan by West 8 has been developed in close collaboration with the developer, ERA Bouw, Proper-Stok, and Woningbedrijf Rotterdam. The housing was developed on basis of the Masterplan together with the architectural offices Drost + van Veen architecten, Atelier Brink, Jeroen Schipper Architecten, De Zwarte Hond, Geurst & Schulze, and NL Architects.

The existing urban tissue has been transformed. Integrating the city, its surrounding parks and rivers, Crooswijk is set to become a contemporary district with an open urban atmosphere. A variation in typology and renovation allow for a contemporary touch to the area. The rich detailing of characteristics recurring in the façade of the buildings further contribute to the diversity of the neighbourhood, linking the new-built building blocks to the existing housing.

After a small speech by West 8, Drost+van Veen architecten and the developer, Proper Stok Ontwikkelaars, the invited guests and local residents had the opportunity to tour the diverse residences.
