Opening first section of Groene Loper Maastricht

On 2 December 2009 the first section of the Groene Loper in Maastricht, designed for the city of Maastricht, was opened. The 25 meter long section now functions as a model showing how the Groene Loper will look like once it’s constructed for real.

The section consists of Tilia Cordata, kerbstones, fine gravel and benches and lighting that were exclusively designed for the Groene Loper Maastricht by West 8, as part of the winning competition design of the under tunneling of the A2 highway in Maastricht, The Netherlands, prepared for the consortium “Avenue2”.

Special guests were minster Camiel Eurlings of the ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, vice-president of the European Commission Antonio Tajani and mayor of Maastricht Gerd Leers.
