Paradijshof in Nieuw Crooswijk and Fenix I both laureates in the Rotterdam Architecture Prize programme

Paradijshof consists of 43 townhouses situated around a green collective courtyard. It is one of the final projects of West 8’s master plan for the regeneration of the late 19th-century neighborhood New Crooswijk in Rotterdam.

The project, designed by West 8 (masterplan, urban design, supervision), HP architecten (architecture), and Office Winhov (architecture) was praised for its ‘subtle integration’, ‘variety in expression’, the ‘diversity of masonry patterns’, “contrasts between materialization and colors” and the ‘roof and facade lines’.

Our praise and congratulations go to Mei Architecten and builder Heijmans for their winning Fenix I building – home to West 8’s Rotterdam office since December 2019. According to the jury, “The building breathes the enthusiasm of all involved – client, architect, builder and users. It is a new icon for Rotterdam.”

A total of 47 projects were submitted this year. The awards were presented at the Rotterdam City Hall on December 18.
