The Herenpolderbrug is situated on the edge of boroughs Hoboken and Kiel within the old petroleum harbor south of the center of Antwerp. The new bridge connects the center of Kiel with the Hoboken polder and the industrial zone in Hoboken directly with the freeway infrastructure.

Beside the improvement of this infrastructural connection , the bridge seeks to become a symbol of the redevelopment of the old industrial landscape of the Petroleum harbors. The strategic location of the new bridge was chosen so that operations on the overhead lines could be avoided.
