Providing a former industrial site with a clear identity through the introduction of new activities and the creation of new public spaces.
Bridges were placed at strategic locations – connecting Kanaaleiland with the city centre. This, in turn, generated a grid of easily navigable foot and cycle paths. One bridge connects the low Kanaaleiland banks with the higher city wall. On the other side, an entrance to the Minnewaterpark and the city centre has been created. A pier allows tourists to access and experience the waterfront, whereas a star-shaped bridge provides a wonderful viewpoint over the water and city centre.
