A green welcome into Nunspeet- the redesign of the area around the station creates a more efficient flow of traffic for cyclists entering town or visiting the Veluwe and provides access to thr train station.
A new tunnel for vehicular traffic reduces delays due to train traffic. By separating the vehicular tunnel from the slow-traffic tunnel, both sets of road users experience a more streamlined entrance to the town.
Celebrating the interface between the Veluwe and Nunspeet- the green area around the station is planted with native heather and pines from the Veluwe creating a smooth transition from the more rural landscape of Nunspeet into the town center.
The tunnels create a safe way for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles to cross into Nunspeet and out to the Veluwe and provide easy access to the train station.
The previous traffic conditions around the train station in Nunspeet were inefficient and heavily focused on vehicular transportation. Pedestrian and cyclist movement was fragmented and forced multiple interactions between slow and fast traffic.
As vehicular traffic crossed the train tracks, there were frequent delays since cars, as well as pedestrians and cyclists, wait for trains to pass.
As construction starts on the project, some of the native pines and the heather have been planted on the natural 'dune-like' landscape that imitates the geography of the Veluwe.
Gentle curves in the roadway encourage traffic to slow down.
Digging two tunnels under the existing railway while maintaining as much functionality as possible is a massive infrastructural undertaking.
