A Green Welcome

The new design for Lelystad’s Central Station Square is focused on the needs of residents and visitors. The square creates a green runner from the station into the center of the city, solidifying its status as the capital city of the “Nieuwe Natuur” or “New Nature.” Green spaces and planting beds feature raised edges where people can rest and relax, creating a pleasant space to wait for the train or bus.

The updated bus station simplified the traffic situation, creating a smooth transition for pedestrians and cyclists from the station to the city center, separating bus and car traffic, and providing a new space for taxis. The bus island offers shade trees, greenery, and physical shelters from the wind and rain.
