Setting the ground – transformation of a formerly inaccessible and polluted area of East London brownfield land into the venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the most successful in history.
The masterplan was the largest ever planning application in London, comprising a major new employment district and the largest urban retail centre in Europe, with new public open spaces, a new mixed-tenure residential neighbourhood complete with infrastructure and 4,500 homes. Working on the project over more than a decade, in collaboration with Fletcher Priest and Arup, the Stratford city masterplan generated the Athletes Village, now known as East Village, Westfield Stratford City and The International Quarter, all of which have set foundations for even wider regeneration around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Lower Lea Valley.
