Rotterdam Centraal announced as finalists Dutch Construction Award 2015 in category ‘Buildings’
The Dutch Construction Awards are intended to provide positive feedback and incentive for the building industry. “Special buildings, civil works, building materials and systems in the Netherlands deserve attention from the industry and the public. Rewarding their outstanding contribution and the quality of construction, can stimulate and inspire the industry.” said Maarten van Hezik, Chairman of the Awards.
Rotterdam Centraal by Team CS (a cooperation between Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Meyer en Van Schooten Architecten and West 8) is one of three finalists in the ‘Buildings’ category. The foundation also offers an annual incentive prize, the ‘Talent With Future’ awards to a young professional who has made an outstanding contribution to a recent project.
According to the jury, “Rotterdam Centraal Station is a combination of robust construction, transparent facades and continuous open space. The original function of the building is retained but the formerly gloomy appearance and ‘narrow tunnels’ have been transformed into a playful, safe and extremely attractive building. A very functional building, characterized by clever integration of complex issues. Successfully completed by many parties Rotterdam Centraal invites people to travel by public transport.”
The prestigious Dutch Construction Award receives between 100 to 150 entries annually from architects, contractors, developers, engineering firms from all over the Netherlands. Winners of the construction awards from each of the three categorys will be announced during the National Construction Week, at the Gala of Dutch Building on 9th February, 2015.
