Stadthafenquartier shared with the public!

Münster, Germany

West 8 are excited to share the urban design for the Stadthafenquartier in Münster, Germany. On the 22nd of November, 2023, the design team presented the draft plans in the first of a series of participation processes with the local community. West 8, as landscape architects will help bring cohesion to the new green neighbourhood while embracing and extending the harbour identity into the urban quarter. Located in the Jovel Music Hall, a 1,500-seat concert venue, the event was set up in a ‘market-style’ layout where attendees were able to discuss the proposals and create a dialogue with different specialists involved in the design. The preliminary drafts of the urban development plan can be viewed on the city’s website and in the Planning and Building Customer Centre in Munich until December 18th: LINK

About the project:
The Stadthafenquartier is a new residential, working and living quarter transforming the former Osmo-Hallen within the harbour of Münster. The mixed-use, low-car district urban development offers space for a variety of uses with around 770 new homes, a daycare centre, offices, restaurants, market hall and hotels. The basis is a framework agreement between the city of Münster and four investors. As landscape architects, West 8’s design unifies the project by re-establishing the character of the public spaces with a green identity. Embracing the existing qualities of the popular position in the city of Münster, the approach brings the harbour identity into the neighbourhood and creates a sequence of three urban plazas, green courtyards and a continuous roof-landscape that serves as a water buffer for the neighbourhood.
