Edzo Bindels is a partner and director of West 8, and excels in the long-term transformation of cities, through continuous involvement. With over 28 years of experience, Bindels creates long-lasting client relationships built on trust, cooperation, and commitment to supervision of the entire process.
Managing and overseeing the cross-disciplinary output of the studio, Edzo provides a wealth of experience across landscape and urban Design masterplans, public space design and ongoing supervision. Within the Netherlands alone, Bindels’ involvement has been instrumental in the revitalization of the city centre of Den Helder, the urban design of Vathorst in Amersfoort, and the Groene Loper (A2 Highway Tunnelling) in Maastricht. Internationally, Madrid RIO in Spain, New Holland Island in St Petersburg Rio Cali Park in Colombia are examples of Bindels’ ability to interweave landscape, urbanism and placemaking within diverse and complex conditions.
Since becoming partner of West 8 in 1999, Bindels has received numerous for his work, including the Maaskantprijs for Young Architects, the Bijhouwer Award for Outstanding Achievement In Landscape Architecture, the Veronica Rudge Prize from Harvard GSD for Madrid RIO and the European Property Award for Sustainable Residential Development, Groene Loper. Teaching and lecturing internationally, Bindels has taught courses at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, Delft University of Technology, and ETSAM University Madrid.
