Liam Mahoney

Project lead

Liam Mahoney is a Licensed Landscape Architect and project lead, practicing internationally in both the North American office and the Netherlands Headquarters. Liam has experience leading distinctive projects in varied contexts and scales including landscapes over-structure, waterfronts, and infrastructure projects. With a pragmatic eye, Liam compliments the team with his technical expertise and mentorship in each project phase from early design, to documentation and realization providing balanced input on constructability and community and client input.

With his wide knowledge of North American construction methodology and documentation standards, Liam has been integral to a great range of West 8’s portfolio of works, leading the construction oversight of projects such as One Manhattan Square’s Roof Garden in New York, Houston Botanic Garden in Texas, and Miami Pride Park in Florida. In addition, Liam is project lead for confidential projects in New York City’s Bioscience corridor where he consistently coordinates with Architects, Engineers, and a multidisciplinary team to achieve world-class open space through a private-public partnership in the heritage of the City’s great pocket parks.

A native of the Midwest, Liam has written for the Oz Journal about the importance of a community-led approach and the future of the Midwest waterfront. This awareness builds off his Masters studies at Kansas State University, where he conducted research for re-purposing vacant land through community engagement in Post-Katrina New Orleans. Prior to West 8, he has participated in New York City’s Participatory Budgeting as a Budget Delegate, and Volunteer Coordinator with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy.
