Toronto Waterfront a Truly Winter Landscape

Last weekend, Toronto was hit by a beautiful snow storm, nearly 20cm of fresh snow covered Queens Quay, Simcoe, Spadina and Rees Wavedecks and the Water’s Edge Promenade.

The arrival of the snow coincided with the annual December Winterfest on Toronto’s Waterfront and added another dimension to the collection of other family-friendly winter activities, like ice skating, taking place along the city’s waterfront.

Despite the chilly winter temperature construction along Queens Quay continues. Specialized equipment will assist contractors and keep the project on schedule despite colder temperatures. Granite installation will continue throughout the winter aided by ground heaters and thermal tarps which prevent the ground from freezing and allow soil and bedding materials to remain pliable. The reconstruction of the Spadina Loop is also well underway – with more than half of the rebuild now complete. The project is scheduled for completion in Spring 2015, in time for the opening of the PanAm Games.
