Van Gogh National Park granted official status!
Brabant, NL
On October the 15th, 2024, the Netherlands’ State Secretary of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) granted the Van Gogh National Park the official status of a national park!
Located in the Dutch province of Brabant, interconnecting the green surroundings and the cities of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Helmond, Eindhoven, Tilburg and Breda, the Masterplan presents an overarching narrative for the Park and prepares and frames its concept and development for the next 100 years.
West 8 developed the plan in close collaboration with Bureau Overland and the steering group and core team of the Van Gogh National Park. After being delivered on March 30, 2020 – Van Gogh’s birthday – the Masterplan was presented to the Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and received support from over 80 Brabant parties such as nature and agricultural organizations, water boards, municipalities, the business community, knowledge institutions and the recreation sector.
“We are incredibly proud to be the first in Brabant to have a National Park in a new style! The area where Vincent van Gogh grew up and painted his first masterpiece, De Aardappeleters [The Potato Eaters], will become an official National Park that bears his name. That is really great news! Here, visitors from home and abroad can enjoy the same nature and the beautiful landscapes that inspired Van Gogh so much.” – Martijn van Dam, chairman of Van Gogh National Park
