West 8 made it to the final stages of an international competition to design the Parc de l’Esplanade de la Defense in Paris.

West 8’s concept was to create a park in the continuity of the newly designed Place de la Defense, revealing the existing landscape and structure, while incorporating a universal ecological network on the esplanade to showcase the diversity of France. Responding to the context, the La Defense site is traditionally seen as a business centre, with most people merely passing through, but the reality is that people do live here and there is a need for spaces where people can come together.
