West 8 to Study Bruges City Cycling Network

West 8, in collaboration with Vectris and Copenhagenize Design Co., is pleased to be commissioned by the city of Bruges to prepare ‘The vision of the FR30’, a study on the feasibility and planning of the city’s bicycle network. This kick-off study aims to strengthen the cycling infrastructure of this UNESCO World Heritage City in order to accommodate its growing number of cyclists.

This study has an ambitious and versatile task: to envision a bicycle network consisting of the city axes and the city’s canal ring, Brugse Vesten, which winds around the city center. The vision should respect the existing infrastructure, nature and heritage of Bruges and focus on creating comfort, safety and connectivity.

In the coming months, West 8, Vectris and Copenhagenize will work on this complex task with an integral approach from different disciplines, a strong capacity to generate high quality spatial planning, and thorough experience in solving complex traffic issues. This vision document, funded by the European Union Handshake Project, will provide the city of Bruges a golden opportunity to take a big step forward and position itself as a cycling capital in Europe.
