West 8 exhibits in the International Garden Show Hamburg 2013

The International Garden Show in Hamburg will be opened on 24th June. Embedded in seven different theme worlds, namely ‘Ports’, ‘Water’, ‘Cultural Diversity’, ‘Continents’, ‘Activity’, ‘Religion’ and ‘Nature’, the show will host more than 400 exhibitors from Germany and abroad. Their slogan is ‘Around the world in 80 gardens’ this year. 18 show gardens under the World of Water theme interpret issues of water shortage and abundance. West 8 receives a commission for designing 3 of the show garden plots under this ‘World of Water’ theme.

Under this one theme, the 3 show plots have different titles: ‘Fill it up! – A virtual “water footprint”‘, ‘Water trail – Household water consumption’ and ‘The wishing table – From water to food’. They are located next to each other forming a designed journey around the Water theme: awareness of the consumptions of water in nowadays human living. A form is given to interpreting the amount of water consumption in industry, in household and in farming. The gardens are designed in an intertwining space in different materials and layouts which bring a journey for the viewers to get aware of some hard facts of water consumption: how many liters of water are needed to produce a liter of wine?  Is flowing water whenever it is desired always a good thing? How many oceans must people drink dry before the whole world is as mobile as we are today?
