West 8 to speak at Urbanism Week 2014, TU Delft
The annual Urbanism Week is an established tradition of Polis, the study association of Urbanism and Landscape Architecture at TU Delft. This five day event is an attempt to understand routes, practices and issues of contemporary urbanism, while trying to find its future possibilities.
Urbanism Week 2014 is devoted to deepening the understanding of different notions of scale and their relationship with Urbanism. The structure of the week responds thematically to different notions of scaling as follows: Mathematical, Geographical, Political, Physical Scaling and Scale Articulation. Each day of the week, will explore an idea of scale borrowed from another discipline and investigate how it can provide new insights for urbanism.
West 8’s Christoph Elsasser, will speak on Friday the 10th of October from 4-4.30pm. His lecture titled ‘The Point of View’ focuses on cultural understandings of different urban developments in large, small or medium scale. During the lecture, West 8’s projects the Guangzhou Huadi Ecological Masterplan in China and the new Rotterdam Centraal station in the Netherlands will be brought into the picture.
The goal of the Urbanism Week is to bring people involved or interested in the field of urbanism together and let them discuss and think about their practice.
