
West 8 Selected as Finalist for BMW FIZ Future Competition
On the 9th of May West 8 and Atelier Kempe Thill, along with five other firms were announced as finalists for the second phase of the BMW FIZ Future urban planning competition. The first stage of the competition saw twelve selected architecture firms submit designs for the expansion of the research and innovation center for BMW Group (FIZ).
The six finalists for Phase 2 are:
• AllesWirdGut Architektur ZT (Austria, Vienna)
• AS & P – Albert Speer & Partner (Germany, Frankfurt am Main)
• Niklaus Gausch Architects (Switzerland, Zurich)
• gmp International (Germany, Hamburg)
• HENN (Germany, Munich)
• West 8 urban design & landscape architecture (Netherlands, Rotterdam)
Dr. Herbert Diess, jury member and Chief of Development at BMW AG remarks that the “optimal integration of Munich North´s infrastructure into the design was an important consideration in the selection process. In order to continue to develop groundbreaking design and innovative technologies, it is important for us to be well connected to Munich´s urban infrastructure.”
On May 10, the six winning designs from Phase 1 were explained and discussed with around 80 interested Munich residents in an open dialogue. Dr. Herbert Grebenc, Head of Real Estate, Facilities Management and Corporate Security at the BMW Group emphasizes: “The FIZ Future program aims to create conditions for sustainable corporate success whilst also developing a vibrant and livable area for residents in the north of Munich and the City of Munich. Therefore, we strongly value a constructive dialogue with the citizens”. Suggestions from the neighborhood dialogue will be incorporated into the second stage of the competition.
On September 25, 2014, the jury will select the winner from the six designs.
