West 8 to speak at international conference in Karlsruhe

LANDSCAPE – the concepts of modernity and the current practice” is the theme of an international conference organized by Henri Bava and Alex Dill of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology that will commence between 24th and 25th of February 2017.

“DIE MODERNE”(modernization) in Europe created numerous projects with model character, concrete utopias, new scientific disciplines, new production methods and functional forms that has influenced the world.

To date, landscapes, gardens and public realm are also considered as a living cultural asset, alongside architecture. They change constantly over the generations, and are always adjusting to new requirements of the time. They are not only a resource, but are the real inalienable foundation and necessity of living space. What opportunities do the landscape and public realm have in common with architecture in contexts? What chances do contemporary ideas and trends of architecture and landscape planning provide? How can ecology, as a topic of our postindustrial society, be planned and get strategized in urban space of our future?

Addressing these questions the conference invited speakers all over Europe, including West 8’s Senior Urban Designer, Christoph Elsässer, to present relevant examples of current practice and strategies.
